In 5770 (2009), Harav Avrohom Halevi Eisen, the Pozna Rov, shlit”a, launched a groundbreaking vision by handpicking six gifted avreichim to pioneer the Shas Yiden program. Redefining the traditional concept of a Shas Yid, this initiative aimed to make Shas Yiden a central feature of the Torah-world landscape, emphasizing not only Talmudic study but the internalization of its teachings. Through a structured curriculum and stipend support, these scholars dedicated themselves wholly to a systematic annual study of the entire Shas, with the ambitious goal of knowing Torah she’be’al peh – by heart.
In the pursuit of this vision, the words resonate: “דרשו ה’ בהמצאו קראוהו בהיותו קרוב” – Dirshu HaShem Behimutzo – Seek Hashem when He may be found; call upon Him while He is near. Shas Yiden exemplifies the commitment to seeking and finding Hashem through the timeless wisdom of the Talmud, bringing the beauty of Torah to the forefront of the Torah community. The journey of Shas Yiden is encapsulated in the essence of “Dirshu HaShem Behimutzo” a phrase that underscores their commitment to seeking Hashem in every aspect of their Talmudic pursuit. As Shas Yiden grows and flourishes, so does the resonance of these words, guiding their transformative journey toward Torah mastery.
